Smud tree service people have been cut, with jobs now done by contracted tree companies bidding for work. Meter people are going to be replaced by smart meters that read themselves. Outside electric companies come in and do the power once done by Smud workers. Smud contracts immigrant cleaning companies to wash their toilets. Talk to power line workers or at Smud headquarterrs on 65th and you will find that many can't speak English. Smud does not need new buildings either. Call Smud. They have people use for free rooms to nonprofits and groups to use to make it look like the Smud buildings are being used. Rancho seco yard and other Smud stations have acres of extra space for the poles, transformers, and wire. Why build for 10 years from now? It appears to me that they are thinking at least 10 years in the future and buying now at probably the lowest price on land and the lowest construction prices in decades. I am sure that all SMUD buildings will be forced to be LEED certified in the future. Platimum certified is the best that you can do.
